Klong Toey is a slum area in Bangkok which has existed since the 1950’s and is home to many rural migrants from Northern Thailand. These migrants arrived in Bangkok seeking employment.
As these migrants do not have legal rights to the land which they occupy they are under threat of eviction from authorities and do not have access to basic amenities such as water, electricity and sanitation. The residents of Klong Toey suffer from poverty and as a result of their living conditions, also health problems.
Pangea-Collection.com features the jewelry work from a small-scale income generation project involving Thai women and youth from the Klong Toey slums in Bangkok. These women and youth need supplementary income so they can afford to raise their children and send them to school. The jewelry that they craft is made using genuine silver and semi-precious stones.
